The process used is highly adaptable and can be tailored to the specific client need on a case by case basis. The scope can range from early stage support in research and discovery to supporting the full research and product development process from Technical Readiness Levels (TRL) 3-6.
Research and Discovery
Ideation, market impulses, futures and scenario planning are common methods for identifying specific needs or opportunities. Background research is carried out to understand the existing status and where gaps in knowhow both internally and externally exist. This research entails reviewing prior research, IP and other sources to understand the state of the art. With these insights potential gaps in knowhow or solutions are identified and development options and paths are considered, either based on adapting a known solution or potentially creating something unique which will both provide new value to the business and potentially new IP.
Prototyping and Evaluation
In cases where the outcomes of the research and discovery process leads to a product development case, Lignutech can support in the process of technology and materials development. An extensive network of research and development partners has been built over the years and in cases where the client has limited or no internal R&D facilities connections with the most suited development partner can be established. When required Lignutech can support the overall product development and prototyping process together with its partners. Support with intellectual property strategy and development is an important additional service during this stage.
Feasibility and Approval
In this stage of the process the work moves into market, technology and business feasibility. A culmination of this work normally leads to a full feasibility study and report with an investment proposal carried forward to the key decision makers. Support in structuring and guiding the feasibility process and identifying potential technology suppliers and market partners are functions Lignutech can support the client with.

InnoRenew CoE is an independent research institute established in 2017 through the InnoRenew project. Research targets renewable materials and sustainable buildings, specifically innovative approaches to wood and its use, with the goal of transferring scientific knowledge into industrial practice.
